Almost anyone can host a great tour of Rome under prime conditions because the place is an archeological treasure house. But how does your tour guide handle the situation when things also go wrong? I went on an Odyssey Tour of Rome on the very day that the Vatican's computers went down -- and there were lines and pandemonium where there shouldn't be lines and pandemonium at all. And our extremely knowledgeable guide dealt with all the problems with aplomb, flash and charm. Being handicapped, my guide really helped me as well. And in the afternoon, Odyssey's tour of the catacombs, Holy Stairs, etc. was totally flawless. You can take a bus to the Vatican but it's rather difficult to get out to the catacombs by oneself so going on a tour made it possible for me. And, trust me, you don't want to ever miss the catacombs while in Rome! Five stars from me.
